Okay. So this is how it is IRL. I like to say “because they’re white” a lot. I do it in a joking manner, but just because it’s funny doesn’t mean it’s not true. Some times I laugh about it and some times I’m actually annoyed/angered (it depends on how much I’ve had to drink). My friends know all…
I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently, being surrounded by a community that likes to almost…over compensate for racism? There are a lot of “activists” in the area who like to harshly throw out the “white privilege” card, when they are themselves white. I’ve never really been able to come up with why this bothers me so much - even as the only brown person in many of my groups of friends, racism hasn’t been much of an issue for me in either case. Something about white people calling each other racist, however, just crawls under my skin - mostly cause its usually based on the most asinine of reasons.
At the end of the day, calling racism out seems to be just as racist as racism. Half the time I feel like they feel as if minorities can’t stand up for themselves - they take on this heavy burden of bearing our crosses for us. Um, no thank you. You can’t even begin to comprehend how an actual minority would feel in this situation, so stop it. Or, they just seem to assume that people of color have no sense of humor. I’m sorry, I will laugh at nail salon jokes all day long, and the white man cannot take that from me.
